City Supports JIPFest 2019 in Jakarta

The inaugural of Jakarta International Photo Festival (JIPFest) themed "Identity" has been opened to the public since June 25 is held at 17 points in Central Jakarta until July 9.

We thank and appreciate

In the ceremonial opening of this festival, Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan expressed Jakarta Provincial Government's support towards the festival as a new tradition in Jakarta.

"We thank and appreciate, as the initiation to hold festivals with various locations is very much in line with what we imagine, we will build in this city. That's why we'll support it," he stated, at the Teater Kecil, Taman Ismail Marzuki, Central Jakarta as quoted from Jakarta PPID press release, Wednesday (7/3).

June 25-July 9, Don't Miss Jakarta International Photo Festival at Taman Ismail Marzuki!

He explained that two main spaces that are used for residents activities, namely houses (residential dwellings) and work space (school or work). Yet there is another room between the two, namely the third room thus travel is not just a routine, but also a valuable experience.

"With the exhibitions in 17 locations, it becomes something unique as it can be a space where residents get new experiences in the third room. We want to encourage more third space, if it could be realized, people don't just walk from the first to the second room, but they will feel a unique experience between them," he explained.

He also described the uniqueness of Indonesia, which is full of diversity of identities, but agrees on unity in it. So he hopes photographer works in the world can be an inspiration and strengthen unity for us.

"That means what's unique in Indonesia is the fact that we are diverse, but united also. That is Jakarta. What you see here is multiple identities. But, in Jakarta, it is a city whose people come from all over Indonesia and we feel united. That's the one we are proud of in our city," he told.

So he hopes the festival could be expanded to the entire Jakarta area and photos on display could illustrate how rich the identity is in Indonesia.
